Tajikistan's Foreign Minister Sirajuddin Mehraldin announced Thursday his country's desire to open an embassy in Baghdad.
A statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), stated that "Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Tajikistan, Sirajuddin Mehraldin, at the United Nations headquarters in New York, on the sidelines of the United Nations Water Conference for the year 2023, in the presence of Minister Plenipotentiary Abbas Kadhim Obaid, President of the Department of International Organizations and Conferences, and Counselor Zaidoun Asim Abdel Wahhab, Permanent Representative of the Republic of Iraq in New York
The statement added, "The two sides discussed bilateral relations between the two countries, and the need to build them according to common interests, and confront common risks, in addition to the importance of exchanging visits between officials of the two countries. They also discussed regional and international issues of common concern, and the need to adopt a political solution in the crises that afflict the region".
The Minister of Foreign Affairs expressed "Iraq's desire to enhance cooperation on all political, economic, commercial, cultural and tourism levels, and the importance of coordination and exchange of support in international forums," calling on "Tajikistan to open an embassy in Baghdad."
He considered it an important step in the framework of strengthening relations between the two countries, expressing "the readiness of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to provide all support to facilitate the procedures for opening it."
For his part, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Tajikistan expressed his happiness with this meeting, thanking the Iraqi government for its assistance in returning the children and women of Tajikistan to their country.
He stressed, "his country's desire to cooperate with Iraq, open the Tajikistan embassy in Baghdad, and launch the axes of political, cultural, commercial, economic, and tourism cooperation within the framework of opening new horizons for joint cooperation, investing in many sectors, and signing a number of agreements between Iraq and Tajikistan."
The two sides exchanged invitations to visit both countries in the framework of strengthening bilateral relations between them.
