Iraq becomes a member in IPHRC of Organization of Islamic Cooperation

    The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced Friday that Iraq has won membership in the Independent Permanent Human Rights Commission IPHRC of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation.

     The ministry stated, in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that "after the efforts made by the Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Iraq's candidate, Ambassador Omar Al-Barzanji, Undersecretary for Multilateral Affairs and Legal Affairs, won the membership of the Independent Permanent  Commission for Human Rights of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (on behalf of the Arab Group).  

    The statement added: “ that success culminated and efforts concerted to obtain that membership, during the presidency of the Undersecretary for Administrative and Technical Affairs, Ambassador Abdul Rahman Al-Husseini, the delegation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs participating in the 49th session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation in the Islamic Republic of Mauritania for the period 16-17 March 2023,   elections were held on the sidelines of the conference, and the staff of our mission in Nouakchott played an active role in addition to their capable tasks.

     It continued: "we appreciate this gain in obtaining the membership of the Permanent Independent Commission for Human Rights, Iraq's gaining this membership is considered a gain for all Arabs, and it is complementary to the march that Iraq seeks to strengthen its Arab environment and its prominent role in the group of Islamic countries."

    It concluded by saying: "We also congratulate the brothers in the Kingdom of Bahrain and the Arab Republic of Egypt for obtaining the same membership."
