PM: Iran has stood by Iraq's side in confronting terrorism

    The Prime Minister, Muhammad Shia' al-Sudani, affirmed today, Thursday, that the Islamic Republic of Iran has stood and still is with Iraq in the face of terrorism, while he directed to honor the families of the Iranian martyrs in the war against ISIS, as a respect and gratitude for their sacrifices.

    The media office of the Prime Minister stated, in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that "Al-Sudani received the delegation of the families of the Iranian martyrs in the war against the terrorist ISIS, in the presence of the Assistant to the President of the Iranian Republic and Director of the Martyrs and Sacrifice Foundation Amir Hassan Qazi, and the Iranian Ambassador to Iraq Muhammad Kazem.

    Al Sadiq, and the presence of the head of the Martyrs Foundation, Abd al-Ilah al-Naeli, and a number of officials in the foundation, who attended at the invitation of the Iraqi Martyrs Foundation.

    During their reception, the Prime Minister expressed "the Iraqi government and people's appreciation for the courageous sacrifice made by the martyrs of the confrontation with terrorism, in a form in which the blood of the Iraqi martyrs mixed with their Iranian counterparts, through a principled stand against the ugliness and barbarism of ISIS.".

    Al-Sudani referred to "the social, religious and historical ties that unite the two friendly peoples," stressing that "the Islamic Republic of Iran has previously stood and is still standing by Iraq in its confrontation with terrorism," noting that "the honorable stand of those free martyrs is respected and appreciated by All Iraqis and all the forces of good in the world.

    He expressed "the need to evoke the stories of martyrdom and altruism that the immortal martyrs struck before the memory of future generations, as words do not match the size of their sacrifices and giving.".

    The statement added, "The Prime Minister received from the families of the Iranian martyrs the banner of the shrine of Imam Ali bin Musa Al-Reza (peace be upon him); in appreciation of his sovereignty, he directed that the families of the martyrs be honored with respect and gratitude for their sacrifices."
