The Minister of Agriculture and Water Resources in the Kurdistan Region, Bekerd Talabani, announced the approval of the federal government to construct 4 dams in the region, while stressing the need to support the local product and prevent the entry of smuggled agricultural materials into Iraq.
Talabani said in a press conference attended by the Iraqi News Agency (INA): "The ministry presented a plan to construct several dams in the region through the federal Ministry of Planning, Agriculture and Water Resources," indicating that "the implementation of 4 dams has been approved, and it is awaiting the approval of the general budget in preparation for the start.".
Regarding coordination in the agricultural field between Baghdad and Erbil, Talabani affirmed the existence of "high coordination with the Federal Ministry of Agriculture," pointing out that "the Ministry of Agriculture in the region submitted several proposals, including a draft law related to agriculture in Iraq," stressing that "Erbil stands with Baghdad in the face of great changes." in the region in terms of climate.
Talabani stressed the necessity of working between the center and the region to maintain the file of food security, and for the food basket in Iraq and the region to be unified.
Talabani affirmed, "her support for the work of the Parliamentary Agriculture and Water Resources Committee, to preserve local production, support farms in the field of marketing, preserve their rights, develop their projects, and prevent the entry of smuggled agricultural materials from outside Iraq."
