Parliament Speaker Muhammad al-Halbousi called for Syria's return to its Arab surroundings.
Al-Halbousi said during the fifth conference of the Arab Parliament and heads of Arab councils and parliaments, in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA): "We call for a position for Arab parliaments to work for the return of Syria and the stability of this brotherly Arab country.".
Al-Halbousi called, according to the statement, for "there to be a clear Arab role, and for the Arab leadership and Arab countries at all levels to adopt Syria's return to its Arab surroundings, and Syria's return to exercising its Arab, regional and international role in an effective and clear manner.".
He pointed out, "In this recent crisis, Iraq began to open the ports with the Syrian Arab Republic and to deliver all popular and governmental aid, and there is a clear role to stand with the brotherly Syrian people."
