MOFA calls for the reopening of the Belgium Embassy in Baghdad

    Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) Fuad Hussein called on Wednesday,  for the reopening of Belgium embassy in Baghdad.

    A statement of MOFA, received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), stated that "Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein received Belgium Foreign Minister, Hadja Lahbib, on the sidelines of the Davos Forum held in Switzerland, and during the meeting they discussed bilateral relations between the two countries, and discussed A number of regional and international issues of common interest."


    According to the statement, the Foreign Minister stressed "the need to reopen Belgium embassy in Baghdad and bring in investments and representatives of Belgium companies, to be a starting point for contributing to rebuilding the infrastructure and activating economic relations through the contribution of Belgium companies in all sectors."

    The two sides also discussed the issue of finding a solution to the fate of ISIS families, including children and foreign fighters, and how to return and hand them over to their countries.

    For her part, Belgium Foreign Minister congratulated the formation of the new Iraqi government, stressing her country's support for the government and welcomed the fruitful dialogue between the central government and the regional government, appreciating Iraq's role in mediating between neighboring countries and the return of refugees, and cooperation within the international coalition to fight ISIS gangs, as she confirmed that her country She is looking forward to a new relationship between the two countries in terms of immigration and security.

    The end of the meeting, Hussein extended an official invitation to Belgium Foreign Minister to visit Iraq, accompanied by senior representatives of Belgium companies and businessmen, to contribute to the process of rebuilding the infrastructure, noting that there are many foreign companies currently operating in Iraq.
