EU: COVID examination for travelers from China is "unjustified"

The European Union’s disease agency confirmed, today, Thursday, that there is no justification for requesting a COVID examination for travelers coming from China.

The agency said: "The examination of the Corona virus for travelers coming from China is not justified.".

Health experts have warned that the high number of coronavirus cases in China, coinciding with the lifting of strict health restrictions by the authorities, could create a potential fertile ground for the emergence of new variants of the virus.

On the eighth of next January, China will stop imposing mandatory quarantine on arrivals to the country, which is the latest measure within its strict “zero Covid” policy that has kept the country largely isolated from the world since the start of the pandemic.

The government has stopped publishing daily infection numbers, while officials in many cities estimate that hundreds of thousands of people have recently contracted the virus, while hospitals and crematoriums are overcrowded across the country.
