Abdullah: The Committee of Experts continues the process of selecting members of the Commission on Human Rights

    Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Shakhwan Abdullah, confirmed today, Tuesday, that the expert committee that was formed under his leadership and concerned with selecting the new members of the High Commission for Human Rights in Iraq will proceed with its work.
    The media office of the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives stated in a statement  that  "Abdullah received in his office today, the Director of the Human Rights Office of the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI) Danielle Bell, and during the meeting, they discussed topics and issues related to the file of Human rights and the importance of implementing the basic international conventions concerned with the protection of human rights and limit violations, as well as to discuss ways to increase the level of cooperation and coordination between the legislative institution and the United Nations mission to continue joint efforts to promote human rights principles in their comprehensive concept.    
     The Vice-President of the Council indicated, according to the statement, that "the committee of experts formed headed by him and concerned with selecting the new members of the High Commission for Human Rights in Iraq, will proceed with its work and will hold a series of meetings next week, adding that the selection of members will be based on the assessment of qualifications and expertise in the field of human rights in accordance with legal and international standards.
    For her part, Danielle Bell expressed her thanks and appreciation for the opportunity for this meeting and discussion of the human rights file and the continuation of work and coordination between the United Nations mission and the House of Representatives to provide assistance and advice and support activities and endeavors aimed at consolidating human rights principles, developing educational programs and raising community awareness and public opinion to ensure the maintenance of rights and freedoms.
