MOWR: Chebayish city is enlisted into the global wetland cities

    Ministry of Water Resources (MOWR) announced on Friday, that the city of Chebayish has been enlisted into the global wetland cities.

    MOWR stated, in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that "the delegation of the Ministry of Water Resources, headed by Jawad Kadhim Badr, was able to enlist the city of Al-Chebayish in Dhi Qar Governorate to the global wetland cities," noting that "this came during the work of the fourteenth conference of COP14 for Wetlands, which is currently being held in Geneva.

     The statement added, "The head of the delegation received the enlisting document certified by the Presidency of the Standing Committee of the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands and that it conforms to the required international standards."

    The Assistant Director-General of the General Authority for Dams and Reservoirs, Laith Abdul-Sattar Jabbar, delivered a speech during the honoring ceremony, according to the statement, in which he explained "the environmental and cultural value of this city and its biological diversity."

     The statement pointed out that "the participating countries expressed their admiration for this city and its exceptional location."
