The inclusion of Al-Azim Dam in the World Heritage Register

    The Government Media Cell announced the inclusion of the archaeological Al-Azim Dam and Al-Qantara Al-Bayda in the Irrigation World Heritage Register .

    The cell affiliated with the Secretariat of the Council of Ministers said in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that "the archaeological Azim Dam in Diyala Governorate, and the origin of the White Qantara in the Holy Karbala Governorate were included in the World Irrigation Heritage Register, during the meetings of the 73rd Executive Council. The International Organization for Irrigation and Sanitation (ICID) on the sixth of this month (October 2022) in Adelaide, South Australia.

    The cell in addition to that, added, "The listing process came according to the directives of the Minister of Water Resources, Mahdi Rashid Al-Hamdani, and the follow-up of the Iraqi National Committee for Irrigation and Drainage, with the support of the General Authority for Operation and Maintenance of Tigris River Basin Projects, the General Authority for Dams and Reservoirs, and the Ministry of Culture / General Authority for Antiquities and Heritage," explaining that "the efforts The relentless Iraqi efforts culminated in this great Iraqi achievement.

    The cell indicated that "what happened in Adelaide is a great achievement for the Iraqi government and the Ministry of Water Resources and will constitute a great incentive to achieve more achievements and gains."
