Ministry of Electricity confirmed Thursday that the Iraqi-Jordanian electrical link-up will add 150 megawatts to the country as a first stage, while setting a date for the completion of the project.
The ministry's spokesman, Ahmed Musa, told the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that "the first phase of the Iraqi-Jordanian electrical interconnection project was signed, and work has begun to actually connect the Risha Transformation Station to the city of Al-Qaim through the Risha-Qaim lines."
Mousa added, "The Iraqi-Jordanian electrical connection will secure and add to Iraq in the first phase 150 megawatts, and enhance Iraq's entry into the energy market, and perhaps it will be a gateway to enter or establish the Arab interconnection system."
He continued, "We have completed partial stages of the electrical connection line with Jordan, and it will be ready next summer."
This morning, Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kadhimi and his Jordanian counterpart, Bishr Hani Al-Khasawneh, laid the foundation stone for the Iraqi-Jordanian electrical interconnection project.
