The Security Media Cell SMC announced on Wednesday the arrest of 33 persons in cases of electronic extortion.
SMC said, in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency INA, that "within the continuous efforts of the National Security Service INSS in maintaining the security and safety of society and after receiving several complaints from citizens who were subjected to cases of electronic extortion, the detachments of the Service in some provinces and based on judicial approvals were able to carry out a number of operations that resulted in the arrest of (33) persons who tried to violate the privacy of citizens and bargain and threaten them through social media sites in exchange for money."
The statement added that "all the accused were referred to the competent authorities to receive their just punishment."
