Ministry of Environment announced Thursday forming a special committees to follow up on water pollution throughout Iraq.
The Director General of the Technical Department in the Ministry of Environment, Amer Al-Fayyadh, told the Iraqi News Agency INA, that "the absorptive capacity of the infrastructure of sewage stations ranges from 3 to 4 million people in Baghdad," noting that "the capital, Baghdad, has a population of nearly 8 million people, and therefore the stations operate with full capacity to drain the water as a result of the population size.”
He Pointed out that "there is a tendency to deepen drinking water pipes to avoid pollution,” adding that "the ministry has formed a committee to follow up on water pollution throughout Iraq, after which it submits its report to the office of the Prime Minister to see the extent of the pollution and treat it."
