The Directorate of Mine Action DMA revealed on Sunday the reasons for the transformation of the cleared areas from agricultural to industrial, while disclosing its projects with the Ministry of Oil in the coming period.
The director general of DMA of the Ministry of Environment Dhafer Mahmoud told the Iraqi News Agency (INA) that "most of the areas cleared of mines were exploited as industrial areas, including oil fields, such as the Sinbad field in Basra," noting that "most of those areas were agricultural, but the problem of lack of water in the country prevented their cultivation; they were exploited as industrial zones."
He explained that "the directorate has a lot of projects with the Ministry of Oil, and includes the cleansing of areas that affect the work of oil fields as well as infrastructure areas," noting that "among those projects is Mosul airport, and some of them were built hospitals and schools."
