The Ministry of Water Resources confirmed today, Thursday, Ankara's intention to increase water releases to the Tigris River, while noting that a Turkish delegation will visit Iraq to see the water reserves and the construction of dams.

The official spokesman for the ministry, Ali Radi, told the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that "the ministry launched water storage from dams and reservoirs to treat water scarcity in the marshes and remote areas, as well as pushing the salt tongue in the Shatt al-Arab,".

"The speech of the Turkish ambassador, Ali Reza Günay, included many points, including that a delegation would be sent to Iraq to review the construction of dams and water storage, and he confirmed the intention of the Turkish side to increase water releases from the Tigris River."
Radi attributed the reasons for the lack of water revenues to the "technical aspect and the expansion of Turkey by establishing dams and water reservoirs, as well as the large population growth and the nature of water years and their change to flood years, as well as water changes that negatively and significantly affected the lack of revenues."
