His Grace Patriarch Cardinal Louis Raphael Sako, called Sunday for calm and for a national dialogue to remedy the blockage of the political horizon.

Sako said in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA): "The country is on a hot tin, due to the obstruction of the political horizon, and the unemployed and the poor to demonstrate," noting that "the scene is frightening that cannot bear delay, so the political parties in particular and the religious authorities, have to remedy the matter before a (tsunami) happens, everyone could be swept away."

He added, "It is imperative to read the situation in depth, and evaluate it seriously, and not misread. Politicians should acknowledge the failure of the sectarian and quota approach that brought corruption and injustice, and realize that stubbornness and defamation is not a solution. They must carefully review their accounts and make concessions in order to save the country by initiating a brotherly dialogue and a responsible national spirit to find an effective new political approach that builds the state and serves the people, not a specific group.

He added, "These demonstrations demonstrated high discipline in peace, avoided violence, and protected state property, as well as the gains made by the current government in creating an environment conducive to building the state at the internal and external levels, which is the cornerstone of dialogue in order to find a solution that achieves peace, stability and prosperity for citizens."
