Parliament's Deputy Speaker: There is no draft law to counter cyber-attacks

    Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Shakhwan Abdullah, stressed Thursday the need to legislate 5 laws during the current legislative term, while noting that there are cyber-attacks and there is no draft law to confront them.
     
    Abdullah said while presiding over a meeting of the security, defense, human rights, and transportation committees to discuss a set of bills, which was attended by the reporter of the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that "our meeting with the relevant committees to discuss the bills that we will vote on during the current legislative term," noting that, "There are 20 bills that have links with the relevant committees."
     
    He added, "The important laws that need legislation within the current legislative term are the Information Crimes Law, the Freedom of Expression and Peaceful Demonstration Bill, the Media and Communications Authority bill, the Communication and Informatics bill, and the Ministry of Communications and Technology bill," noting: "We are facing a daily electronic attack that attacks society, so far, there is no draft law to counter these attacks or a mechanism to determine the penalty for cybercrime."
     
    He added, "These projects will aim to protect the individual from violating his rights and freedom of expression."
