Ukraine asks Kherson residents to “urgently leave”

Lost Ukraine controls most of the area Kherson Located on the Black Sea, including its capital that bears its name, in the first weeks of the Russian military campaign that began on February 24.

“Obviously there will be fighting and there will be artillery,” Irina Verichuk told national television. “So we urge (people) to evacuate urgently.”
She added that she “cannot say exactly when the counter-attack will occur,” according to Reuters.

She added, “I know for sure that there should not be women and children, so that they do not become human shields.”

The Moscow-installed Kherson authorities say they want to hold a referendum on joining the… RussiaBut she hasn’t set a date yet. The Kremlin says the region’s future “must be decided by its residents.”

Kherson region includes the city of Kherson, which before the war had a population of about 300,000. It is not known now how many residents of the city are still there.
