Border Ports Authority announced on Thursday, the evacuation of (20) containers loaded with highly dangerous materials in the southern port of Umm Qasr.
The authority stated in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that "under the direct supervision of the head of the Border Ports Authority, Major General Omar Adnan Al-Waeli, and based on Diwani Order No. (18) for the year 2022, the Directorate of Port of Umm Qasr Southern Port evacuated (20) containers containing (Extremely dangerous chemicals) that have exceeded the legal period allowed for them to remain in the port without consulting the relevant stakeholders.”
The statement added, "After completing all its procedures by the security authorities and workers at the port, it was transferred safely to its last destination to remove its threat to government departments, population centers, ports and their workers, in implementation of the decision of the investigating judge of Umm Qasr Al Janoubi Court after the matter was brought before his eyes to take legal measures necessary".
