Ministry of Health announced on Monday, that Iraq has entered a new epidemic wave of COVID-19.

"Through the follow-up of the epidemiological monitoring teams of the Ministry of Health to the latest developments in the daily epidemiological situation of the Corona pandemic in Iraq, there is a noticeable increase in the percentage of positive cases from total examinations during the past days, as well as an increase in the number of hospitalized cases," said the ministry’s media in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency - INA.

The statement included that "this means Iraq will enter a new epidemic wave, and this is what the Ministry, the World Health Organization and international scientific institutions have constantly warned of the possibility of new epidemic waves or the emergence of new mutant.”

"Unfortunately, the return of high infections is an inevitable result of the negligence in receiving doses of Covid-19 vaccines by many segments, despite their availability in all health centers in Baghdad and the governorates, as well as sober scientific research and studies have proven that most injuries and deaths occur in countries around the world in the groups that do not have anti-COVID-19 vaccines, in addition to the weak application of preventive measures, the most important of which is wearing masks, applying physical distancing and washing hands frequently," added in the statement.

It was highlighted that the Ministry of Health stresses "the need to speed up taking vaccinations, especially for groups at high risk, as well as the need to return to commitment to individual and societal preventive measures," noting that the Ministry "urges the heroic angels in all their categories to continue their distinguished efforts to confront this dangerous epidemic."

The statement included a call on "all ministries, government institutions and supporting bodies to continue to support the efforts of the Ministry of Health to address the Corona pandemic."
