The Minister of Foreign Affairs stresses the importance of continuing the existing migration dialogue with the European side

    Foreign Minister Fouad Hussein stressed today, Tuesday, the importance of continuing the existing migration dialogue with the European side, and supporting programs to encourage the voluntary return of Iraqis whose applications were rejected in European countries.
    Foreign Ministry spokesman, Ahmed Al-Sahaf, said in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that "Foreign Minister Fouad Hussein met today, Tuesday, 5/10/2022, on the sidelines of his participation in the 6th Brussels Conference on supporting the future of Syria and the region, the European Commissioner Internal Affairs and Migration Ylva Johansson, and during the meeting, they discussed bilateral relations between the Republic of Iraq and the European Union and ways to enhance it in all areas of common interest.
     
    The minister presented, "a summary of the steps taken by the Iraqi government to curb smuggling gangs and the role of national authorities to raise societal awareness as far as the issue of immigration is concerned."
     
    Ylva indicated, "the importance that the European Union attaches to the issue of cooperation and partnership with Iraq, its desire for its stability and its keenness to deepen the bonds of relations between the two sides," praising Iraq's efforts in cooperating with the European Union to curb illegal immigration and limit its dire consequences and the Iraqi government's response to combating smuggling networks and providing all that is needed for the voluntary return of migrants, which is a model for cooperation in the field of migration.”
