Ministry of Water Resources revealed the volume of electrical energy generated by the dams, while identifying the capacities of 6 generating ones, stressing that for power generation, new ones are needed to be build.

"There is no current need to build new dams for the purpose of storage because there are huge storage spaces, but rather the need is to generate electric power," stated the advisor of the Ministry of Water Resources, Aoun Diab to the Iraqi News Agency – INA.

He pointed out that "the existing dams unevenly generate electric power from a season to another," explaining that the quantities currently producing electric power from the dams amount to 115 megawatts in Mosul Dam, 45 megawatts in Dukan Dam, 19 megawatts in Darbandikhan, 46 megawatts in Samarra Dam, 78 megawatts in Haditha dam, and 5 megawatts in Al Hindiya Dam.

"The total energy production from the dams is 308 megawatts per day, and this is now; in the season of scarcity; as we want to develop it by constructing other dams between the dams, which will allow the production of additional clean electric energy," he included.
