MOT: The railway connection with Iran requires a bureaucratic decision

    The General Company for Railways, one of the formations of the Ministry of Transport, confirmed today, Thursday, that the railway connection with neighboring countries requires a bureaucratic or presidential decision.

    The Director General of the General Company for Railways, Talib Jawad Al-Husseini, told the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that "the railway connection with neighboring countries needs a bureaucratic or presidential decision because it concerns the sovereignty of the country, and from the professional side, setting the date for commencement and implementation is subject to the approval of the Prime Minister.".

    He added, "From the professional side, there are discussions, exchange of information, and feasibility studies by Iraq and Iran regarding this link."

    Al-Husseini added that "the railway connection between Iraq and Iran is important, as there are holy shrines and very large numbers of visitors between the two countries, in addition to the volume of trade exchange, which exceeds more than 16 billion dollars annually," stressing that "the railway connection with neighboring countries, especially Turkey and Iran, is one of the feasible lines.
