Head of the National Security Service , Hamid Al-Shatri, announced Sunday new decisions to curb the scourge of drugs, while indicating the existence of high-level security coordination with the Kurdistan region.
Al-Shatri told the Iraqi News Agency (INA): "The scourge of drugs is one of the most important challenges facing our security system and hitting Iraqi society, and it has significant and dangerous repercussions," noting that "several meetings took place recently for the purpose of coordination with the competent security authorities and others, to take appropriate means to reduce this phenomenon".
Al-Shatri added, "There are several ideas and in the event the new government is formed, decisions will be taken either at the parliament level to legislate laws or at the government level for the purpose of coordinating between the security services, providing them with the necessary equipment and increasing the number of associates and experts working in this aspect."
Regarding security coordination with the security forces in the Kurdistan region, he stressed that "there is high-level security coordination with the Kurdistan region, and we are always working to activate it regarding drug control."
