The Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky signed a law to confiscate Russian property on his country's territory .
Prior to this, Zelensky signed a law increasing the liability for high treason, which stipulates a penalty of up to life imprisonment.
"President Zelensky signed the Law on Amendments to the Criminal Code of Ukraine in connection with strengthening the responsibility for crimes against the foundations of national security of Ukraine under martial law," a statement posted on the Verkhovna Rada website said.
The statement explained that "the law stipulates increased responsibility for treason and vandalism, up to life imprisonment and confiscation of property."
