Tehran confirmed, on Monday, that it is waiting to see the details of Moscow's request for written guarantees from Washington regarding talks on the nuclear program, after Western sanctions imposed on Russia following the military operation in Ukraine.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Saied Khatibzadeh indicated in a press conference that "his country is awaiting details on guarantees through the diplomatic channel," stressing the need for "Iran's peaceful civil cooperation with other countries, including Russia, to be subject to any punishment, especially in the event of these sanctions were imposed by a specific party and not directly by the United Nations."
Zadeh pointed out that "Russia's approach so far has been constructive in order to reach a collective agreement in Vienna."
In turn, Foreign Minister Amir Abdollahian stressed that "Tehran will not allow any external factor to affect its national interests in the talks."
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov confirmed his country's request for written guarantees that sanctions would not affect Russia's right to trade, economic, investment and military cooperation with Iran, while US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken denied "there is a link between sanctions and Russia's role in reviving the nuclear agreement." "The demands are out of context," he said.
