The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced today, Saturday, the release of four Iraqis detained in Ukraine.
Ministry spokesman Ahmed Al-Sahhaf said in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA) that "as soon as information was received by the Embassy of the Republic of Iraq in Ukraine about the detention of four Iraqi citizens in a police station in the city (Lvov) in western Ukraine, the embassy immediately intervened and addressed the competent authorities to verify the case. He added, "Efforts have resulted in their release, and contacts were made with them by the embassy to check on their conditions.".
He explained that "the four Iraqi citizens had headed to the Ukrainian international border with Poland, and after they roamed the city center in search of temporary housing, the Ukrainian police stopped them and searched and detained them.".
Al-Sahaf called on the members of the honorable Iraqi community to exercise caution in light of the current circumstances that Ukraine is going through, and to abide by the directives of the Ukrainian authorities concerned with the protection of civilians in order to preserve their lives and safety, and not to leave their homes except in emergency and extreme cases.
