The Russian Defense Ministry announced that its forces carried out a successful air landing operation in the area of Gostomel Airport on the outskirts of the Ukrainian capital, Kiev, and took control of this airport.
Russian forces also announced that they had taken control of a vital canal to supply water to the Crimea, which was annexed by Russia and has been suffering from a water shortage for eight years.
"Thanks to the ground regiments and airborne forces, Russian forces were able to reach the city of Kherson, which made it possible to open the canal in northern Crimea and restore the water supply to Crimea," the Russian military said in a statement.
