The 20th Division of the Iraqi Army announced on Saturday, the opening of new posts on the border between Nineveh Governorate and Syria to strengthen the borders and prevent the infiltration of terrorists.
”There is an ongoing change of plans according to the field situation, and the last thing we accomplished was opening new posts on the borders between Iraq and Syria to strengthen the borders and prevent the infiltration of terrorists," said the Commander of the 20th Division, Brigadier General Atheer Hamza Jassim al-Rubaie, to the Iraqi News Agency (INA).
He added, "The Engineering Dept in the twentieth division continues, in turn, in the implementation of fortifications and arbitrations,”
Earlier, the spokesman for the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Major General Yahya Rasoul, confirmed that the Iraqi forces rely on themselves to fortify the borders and that the Prime Minister's instructions are clear that it is a must to respond firmly to any attempts to attack Iraqi lands.
"The armed forces are ready to deter any attempts by terrorist gangs to approach the Iraqi-Syrian borders, and the enemy will receive a firm response from the military units," Rasoul told INA, stressing that "the message of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces during his recent visit to the border strip was clear that terrorists have no place inside or outside Iraqi territory, and if they try to plot or attack on Iraqi lands or borders, there will be a firm and strong response,”
He pointed out that "Iraq today depends largely on its security forces, border forces, army units, and other sectors to secure, arbitrate, and fortify the borders, and terrorism will be pursued inside or outside Iraqi territory,”
