The Ministry of Health announced that the rate of Omicron infections in Iraq has exceeded 80 percent, while it renewed its call for citizens to take the vaccine.
The Director-General of Health, Riyad Abdul-Amir, told the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that "the percentage of infections with the Omicron mutant has now reached more than 80 percent," noting that "most of those who have fallen asleep are unvaccinated."
He added, "The vaccine is still effective, and no side effects were recorded in the vaccination campaign last year," noting that "most of the countries that lifted restrictions are those that achieved a high vaccination rate of 90% (such as Sweden, Britain, Italy and France), which enabled them to raise restrictions".
He continued, "The experience of those countries with the mutated Omicron has proven its effectiveness; despite the large numbers of cases of the mutant, but the deaths are few new, so they lifted the restrictions," stressing that "the ministry is on its way to lift all restrictions, but we need a high vaccination rate."
