MOFA calls for diplomatic methods to resolve Russia-Ukraine tension

    INA – BAGHDAD
     
    Ministry of Foreign Affairs – MOFA called on Wednesday, for adherence to diplomatic methods to resolve the tension between Russia and Ukraine.
     
    "The head of Europe Department, Acting Minister Tariq Adel Al-Shaher met on Wednesday, with the Chargé d'Affairs of the Ukrainian Embassy in Baghdad Alexander Buravzhnikov," said the ministry in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA).
     
    Al-Shaher stressed, "the importance of continuing to hold meetings on political consultations to be held during the first quarter of 2022 between Iraq and Ukraine," pointing out that "Iraq's position calls for respect for the sovereignty of countries, non-interference in their internal affairs and disassociation from differences and disputes, whether between Ukraine and Russia or between countries, through Iraq's commitment to a neutral position on the conflict between countries,”
     
    The meeting highlighted the activation of the meetings of the Iraqi-Ukrainian joint committee in its fifth session during the first half of this year, and “the need to encourage bilateral visits by officials in both countries, in a way that contributes to strengthening bilateral relations in various fields,"
     
    Buravzhnikov reviewed the developments in the internal situation in his country, noting "the efforts of the Ukrainian government to act on the international community regarding the severe tensions with Russia and the prospects of war with it,"
     
    He asserted "the importance of using all diplomatic means to reduce escalation, withdraw Russian forces from Ukraine's borders, and prevent the Russian Federation from any possible aggression against Ukraine,"
