The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that Iraq has received two artifacts, one of which is 4,000 years old.

A statement by the ministry, received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), stated that "the Consulate General of the Republic of Iraq in Los Angeles received two artifacts from the Sumerian and Babylonian eras, one of which is 4000 years old."

The statement added, "One of the pieces is part of a cuneiform tablet, dating back thousands of years, and it is likely that it was transferred outside Iraq during the looting that the country was exposed to in the twentieth century. In the Babylonian period from 2000-1600 BC, the inscribed text was used in the ancient Babylonian schools to teach children how to write, and only two published tablets are known as the written text.

He pointed out that "the Consul General in Los Angeles, Salwan Sinjari, expressed his thanks and appreciation for the efforts made and the high coordination with the Department of Homeland Security Investigations for the purpose of returning the two pieces," noting that "this effort highlights the great cooperation between the Iraqi and American authorities, and that this level of cooperation from It would strengthen the friendship relationship that falls under the Strategic Framework Agreement between the two countries, and it would also enhance our joint and ongoing measures to eliminate terrorism and illegal acts."
