Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi said Wednesday that Iraq has 47,000 manuscripts.
"We came here at the request of the Minister of Culture to contribute to lay the foundation stone for the Iraqi Manuscript department," al-Kadhimi said in a speech at the ceremony of laying the foundation stone for the Iraqi Manuscript department and was attended by a reporter from the Iraqi News Agency (INA).
"There are more than 47,000 manuscripts and Iraq is recognized as the first inhabitants of the earth, the first word and the first to put a foot in the world, it is a pure land," he said.
"We must continue this production to protect this heritage, we must take care of culture and the future, and we start from the experiences of the past and today we open this project to lay the foundation stone and we must take pride in history and belonging to Iraq," he said.
