Baghdad-INA
The United Nations Population Fund in Iraq (UNFPA Iraq) issued a set of recommendations to combat violence against women, while calling on the government to legislate laws in this regard.
The representative of UNFPA Iraq, Rita Columbia, told the Iraqi News Agency (INA), today, Tuesday, that " The women's file does not depend on the performance of the government only, but rather requires high efforts, different sectors and partners for the purpose of charting better policies to end gender-based violence and some participation and support from partners, communities, donors and state agencies, is a collective effort that is not just about government systems."
Columbia called "The government to draw up the best laws to protect women from all forms of violence and to delineate them in an optimal manner so that laws are responsive to interference in various sectors and encourage such actions with regard to the governmental role."
She added, "The most important recommendations that we hope and recommend to the Republic of Iraq are to adopt good and protective legislation for issues of gender-based violence, as well as support government institutions to implement the law," noting that "the legislation of the law is not sufficient if it is not implemented and, if the empowerment of women in all sectors is not adopted to ensure the real impact of the situation of women ".
