A statement by the Popular Mobilization Authority received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA) stated that "a joint force of the army and the Popular Mobilization has embarked on a wide inspection operation in the Alwand River Basin in Diyala," noting that "the operation came after intelligence information was received about the presence of the enemy."
The statement added that "the operation started from two axes to purify the Alwand River Basin from Helwan Bridge to the village of Alyawa to pursue ISIS remnants and secure both banks of the river, with the participation of the 23, 28 and 110 brigades of the Popular Mobilization and the First Division of the Iraqi Army."
