Nadhim discusses with the Louvre Museum the rehabilitation of the Mosul Museum

    The Minister of Culture, Tourism and Antiquities, Hassan Nadhim, discussed, on Thursday, with the director of the Louvre Museum, Laurence de Cars, in the French capital, Paris, the rehabilitation of the Museum of the City of Mosul. 

    The ministry said in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that "the Minister of Culture, Tourism and Antiquities, Hassan Nadhim, met the director of the Louvre Museum, Laurence de Cars, in the French capital, Paris, and the meeting was attended by the head of the General Authority for Antiquities and Heritage, Laith Majid Hussein, and the head of the Antiquities Department." The East in the Museum, Ariana Thomas and Chargé d'Affairs at the Iraqi Embassy.   

    The Minister of Culture praised "the active role played by the French government in supporting work on archaeological sites, especially after the terrorist attack on many archaeological sites in the city of Mosul, calling for the resumption of intensive excavation work in Iraqi archaeological sites after the end of the pandemic. Activating and rehabilitating Iraq’s museums, especially the Mosul Museum, because this museum symbolizes an authentic history, a present challenge, and a future aspiration.” . 

     The minister stressed "the need for the Louvre Museum to contribute to a project concerned with training Iraqi cadres on excavation on the one hand, and the preservation and rehabilitation of antiquities on the other hand."   

    In turn, De Cars welcomed "the continued interest given by the Iraqi government and the Ministry of Culture to the work of the Louvre Museum in the excavations of the cities of Larsa and Khorsabad.". 

    Laith Majid Hussein, head of the General Authority for Antiquities and Heritage, also gave a presentation on the practical developments in the Larsa excavations. The head of the authority also renewed the ministry's desire to coordinate with the Louvre Administration to train the authority's cadres in maintenance and restoration works.
