The US State Department condemned the attempt to assassinate Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kadhimi.
“We are relieved to learn that the Prime Minister was unharmed. This clear act of terrorism, which we strongly condemn, is directed at the heart of the Iraqi state,” State Department spokesman Ned Price said in a statement, followed by the Iraqi News Agency (INA).
“We are in close contact with the Iraqi security forces tasked with preserving Iraq’s sovereignty and independence and have offered to help us investigate this attack,” he added.
Earlier, The Security Media Cell announced that Prime Minister, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Mustafa Al-Kadhimi, was subjected to a failed assassination attempt with a booby-trapped drone.
The cell stated in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that "A failed assassination attempt against Prime Minister, the Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces, by a booby-trapped drone, tried to target his residence in the Green Zone in Baghdad," noting that "Al-Kadhimi was not harmed." He is in good health."
The cell added, "The security forces are taking the necessary measures regarding this failed attempt."
