The Moroccan authorities announced on Thursday to start work passport vaccination against Corona virus as a condition for exemption from exclusive precautionary restrictions imposed because of the pandemic, which include mobility between cities and to travel abroad and entering the public administrations and cafes closed places.
In a statement, the Moroccan government confirmed that "this decision comes in support of the positive development of the national campaign for vaccination, and in accordance with the recommendations of the Scientific and Technical Committee," calling at the same time "the non-vaccinators to expedite the vaccination of themselves against the Corona epidemic.".
Morocco had used the Sinopharma, AstraZeneca and Pfizer vaccines in the vaccination campaign that was launched last January, with the aim of achieving herd immunity to 80% of the country's total population of about 36 million people.
According to official statistics, more than 21 million people have received the two doses of the vaccine, and the third dose of the vaccine has been given to about 800,000 people, since the beginning of October.
The Moroccan government’s decision to adopt the vaccination passport as an exclusive condition for movement between cities and travel abroad, sparked reactions on social media, rejecting this measure as a restriction of freedom, according to citizens, stressing the need for “vaccination to remain optional.” .
The Moroccan Association for Human Rights considered the decision "a blatant violation of constitutional rights, the most important of which is the right to the sanctity of the body and a violation of freedom of movement.".
On the other hand, health systems expert Tayeb Hicidi stressed that "the importance of this procedure comes in order to speed up the return to normal life, and protect those who are not attached from danger."
