Presidency of Republic: pardon decision included perpetrators of crimes far from terrorism and corruption

    The Presidency of the Republic has identified Wednesday, those who are covered by the recently issued pardon, it indicated that a committee has begun to scrutinize their cases.
     
    The Legal Adviser to the Presidency of the Republic, Munif Al-Shammari, told the Iraqi News Agency (INA): "The Presidency of the Republic issued a republican decree pardoning 571 convicts," noting that "those covered by the pardon are those who committed crimes far from terrorism, financial corruption, and administrative and international crimes." .
     
    He explained, "The provisions of the special pardon were issued on the recommendation of the Cabinet, where there is a committee that began to scrutinize the cases of those covered by the pardon decision who have served half their sentence, as the names were submitted to the Presidency of the Republic to issue a pardon."
     
    He added, "Article 73 of the Constitution stipulated that no amnesty was issued for the perpetrators of terrorist crimes and financial and administrative corruption in addition to international crimes, and therefore the pardon decision was issued to the perpetrators of regular crimes," stressing "the President's keenness to abide by and respect the provisions of the Constitution."
