Demonstrations began in Al-firdous Square on Friday, the second anniversary of the October 2019 demonstrations.

"The demonstrations started in Al-firdous Square towards Tahrir Square amid a deployment by security forces in the demonstration areas to protect the demonstrators," said a reporter for the Iraqi News Agency (INA).

On his part, Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kadhimi had taken a number of decisions, including changing the security leaders, and opening a frank national dialogue with the various groups of Iraqi society for listening to the demands of the peaceful protest movement, implementing its national priorities, initiating a comprehensive campaign of investigation and accountability for the violent incidents that accompanied the protests, applying justice to those involved in Iraqi blood, ensuring the treatment of the wounded, and releasing arrested demonstrators except for those involved in Iraqi blood.

He also directed the immediate investigation into the events of Tahrir Square and directed the security forces to provide the necessary protection for the peaceful demonstrations and to secure treatment for the wounded demonstrators, and to transfer some of them abroad.

He also directed the ministries to listen to their demands and conduct a field visit to the demonstrators in the Al-Alawi area and listen to their demands and achieve them, while the cabinet decided to include the martyrs and wounded of the demonstrations in the Law of the Martyrs Foundation.
