The Secretary-General of the Council of Ministers, Hamid Naim Al-Ghezi, confirmed on Wednesday, that the government supports the participation of women in the elections as candidates and voters as all necessary support is provided.
Al-Ghezi, received the United Nations Representative for Women in Iraq, Dina Zorba, and the meeting was attended by the Director-General of the Iraqi Women Empowerment Department in the General Secretariat of the Cabinet, Yousra Karim Mohsen, according to a statement by the General Secretariat of the Cabinet, received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA).
He confirmed that "the Iraqi government supports women's participation in the parliamentary elections to be held next month, and provides all kinds of support necessary for the success of their participation as a candidate or voter, and to provide them with security and protection,”
“The General Secretariat of the Cabinet, via the Iraqi Women Empowerment Department, established a special committee to support and empower women politically, in order to participate in the elections, in coordination with the United Nations and relevant authorities,” he noted.
For her part, Zorba praised, the great role of the General Secretariat of the Cabinet and the Iraqi Women Empowerment Department in it, which contribute to supporting and empowering Iraqi women in all fields, and activate the recommendations issued by bilateral meetings that support women in Iraq.
