Foreign Ministry: Iraq has succeeded in holding meetings between the countries of the region to resolve differences

    Iraq has succeeded in holding meetings between countries in the region to resolve differences, the foreign ministry said Monday.
     
    the ministry said in a statement received by Iraqi News Agency that “Foreign Minister Fouad Hussein met with his Norwegian counterpart Eni Eriksen Soreide on the sidelines of the 76th session of the UN General Assembly, during which he discussed strengthening and developing bilateral relations between both countries, the latest political, security, regional and international developments, and Iraq's efforts to promote peace and stability in the Middle East, most recently the Baghdad Conference on Cooperation and Partnership held at the end of August." 
     
    "Iraq has suffered from these tensions, which have been reflected on the Iraqi scene," Hussein said, adding that Iraq was keen to be a factor and a source of stability in the region and find solutions to its problems, that Iraq succeeded in holding meetings among countries in the region to resolve differences and crises among them.
     
    "Preparations for the elections are going well," he said, adding that "this year's early elections are the first of their kind in Iraq and will be a crucial step in the future of the political process in Iraq."
     
    The foreign minister praised Norway's "support for Iraq in this area as a member of the Security Council, which unanimously adopted Resolution 2576 of 2021," praising Norway's "efforts to participate in the international coalition to fight terrorism and defeat ISIS."
     
    The foreign minister called on "Norwegian companies to invest in Iraq and contribute to infrastructure development projects, particularly energy areas."
     
    On her part, Norway’s foreign minister "We are pleased with the success of the Baghdad Conference on Cooperation and Partnership and its outcomes, which will lead to calm and reduced tensions, and the recent ministerial meeting chaired by Iraq in New York." 
     
    She also appreciated Iraq's "leading role, taking responsibility and participating in finding solutions to end conflicts in the region."
