The Ministry of Water Resources has set the date for completing the water talks, while noting that an Iraqi delegation will visit Turkey early next month to discuss this issue.
The spokesman for the ministry, Ali Radi, told the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that all countries around the world are affected by climatic changes, such as the rising temperatures and rain retention, and this led to a decrease in water revenues, pointing out that there are other technical factors related to establishing dams and irrigation projects, as all these factors affected Iraq's water revenues.
Radi added, "The current year is a water scarce year, and there is a clear lack of water in the Tigris and Euphrates rivers, as their level has decreased to more than 50%, in addition to the decreasing rates of water Dukan Dam, Darbandikhan, Sirwan and Diyala, affirming that the water needs have been secured for this season and the next winter, from the good water storage in reservoirs and lakes.
Radi also indicated that many meetings were held with the Turkish and Syrian sides within the water file, and that there is an expected visit of an Iraqi delegation to Turkey early next month in order to complete the meetings and discussions regarding Iraq's share and water releases in the Tigris and Euphrates rivers, as well as preparing for a joint tripartite meeting that includes Iraq, Turkey and Syria on the issue of sharing damage during the water scarcity period, completing the discussion on the joint protocol between Iraq and Turkey, and establishing a research center in Iraq.
