The Parliament’s Committee of Culture, Tourism and Antiquities proposed returning Cybercrime Law to the Cabinet, while affirming that this law is unlikely to be passed during the current parliamentary term.
The head of the committee, Samia Al-Ghullab, told the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that the Cybercrime Law faced many public objections and strong reactions, when it was presented to a vote in the parliament, noting that the committee discussed during its meetings the law and announced its reservation in order not to be responsible for its legislation before Iraqi people.
Al-Ghullab added that the committee proposed returning the draft law to the Cabinet to be re-drafted, stressing that the law has many controversial items, including penalties and strictness on freedom of expression.
Many items in the law need to be amended, and it is unlikely to be passed during the current parliamentary term, Al-Ghullab mentioned.
