The Heritage (Karmian) Museum in the city of Kalar in the Sulaymaniyah Governorate is one of the most promising museums that includes more than 500 heritage and folklore pieces.
Museum director Muhammad Ali told the Iraqi News Agency (INA): "The pieces displayed in the museum are up to 200 years old and originate from several cities belonging to the Karmian region," noting that "most of the pieces in the museum have been collected since the early nineties of the last century, and some of them were Used or displayed in several old and heritage houses, while the other part was bought or gifted by citizens.
He pointed out that "the museum contains about 500 heritage and folklore pieces, but not all of them were exposed to the lack of space and the lack of readiness of the museum in all its floors," noting that "the museum needs reconstruction and rehabilitation of the rest of the floors to accommodate all the old pieces."
He explained that "the museum includes many ancient weapons, as well as old tools used for agriculture, in addition to various pieces of folkloric clothing and home furniture," noting that "the museum includes a special corner containing tools that the bride used on her wedding day, including accessories, cosmetics, and special clothes for the occasion. ".
He pointed out that "all citizens can visit the museum all days of the week, and there are introductory panels in Arabic, Kurdish and English, on all the pieces and objects displayed in the museum explaining the name of the piece, its age and other information about it."
