The Government Media Cell announced on Tuesday, thwarting an attempt to smuggle medicines and medical supplies in the northern port of Umm Qasr.
A statement by the Cell received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA) stated that "in continuation of the tasks entrusted to the Border Ports Authority, to follow up and prosecut the smuggling operations of goods prohibited to export and import through land, sea and air ports, the security forces of the northern port of Umm Qasr, and with the follow-up from the head of the authority, Omar Adnan Al-Waeli, managed to seize a container prepared for smuggling.
The statement added, the seized container, contained human medicines, medical supplies in violation of the terms and controls of import, which negatively reflects on the health and safety of citizens, ," noting that The Accused have been referred to the judiciary, to take legal measures against them.
