The Kurdistan Regional Government announced on Sunday, that it had taken a decision to confront smuggling operations at the borders, while indicating that it had taken serious steps to prevent corruption.
Samir Hawrami, the spokesperson for the Vice President of KRG, said in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA): "The Vice-President of the Kurdistan Regional Government, Qubad Talabani, decided to deploy a force of Asayish forces at the border crossings of the region, including the two border outlets: Bashmakh and Broizkhan, as well as some customs areas.
Hawrami added that the reason behind this decision is to confront the smuggling process and the violation of laws, in addition to stopping people who engage in illegal business operations.
this step is practical and part of the reforms undertaken by KRG, as it is currently under the supervision of the Deputy Prime Minister to eliminate corruption.
