The Ministry of Interior announced on Tuesday, capturing a terrorist network in Anbar that was trying to carry out attacks in public places during the last Eid al-Adha.
A statement by MOI, received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), stated that after capturing a large terrorist network in Kirkuk province , as some of the terrorists were responsible for the Al-Wahilat market bombings in al-Sadr City, and after careful intelligence follow-up and security and intelligence pursuing, the Agency of Intelligence and Federal Investigation (AIFI) at the Ministry of Interior managed to arrest a second terrorist cell in Al-Anbar province intended to carry out attacks in crowded and public places to target safe innocent people during the last Eid al-Adha.
The statement added, "Initial investigations revealed that the cell members carried out terrorist operations to target the army and Popular Mobilization Forces patrols in 2018 with IEDs, in addition to their attempts to carry out major attacks during the days of Eid al-Adha, in what is known as the Eid Battle.
The statement continued, the investigative procedures were taken and the terrorists' confessions have been duly certified in order to bring them to justice for punishment.
