The Minister of Labor and Social Affairs, Adel Al-Rikabi, confirmed today, Thursday, that the Iraqi government has been implementing activities in the field of women's empowerment, while noting that the country needs to enact legislation that preserves women's rights and dignity.
And the Minister’s media office said in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that “the Minister of Labor participated in the work of the eighth session of the Ministerial Conference of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation for Women in Cairo, in the presence of the President of the Arab Republic of Egypt Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi and the Secretary-General of the Organization Youssef bin Ahmed Al-Othaimeen, member states and representatives of organizations international and regional participation, with the participation of more than 50 countries.
In his speech, the minister called for a rapid response to address the psychological, social and economic effects that occurred as a result of human rights violations affecting women, by implementing policies and programs that would bridge the existing gender gaps and achieve equality.
He said that "respecting women and ensuring their rights in society is an integral part of human rights principles, and a legitimate, humanitarian and national duty that imposes on the member states of the organization a serious and real interest in women's rights, indicating that there is an actual need to enact legislation that preserves women's rights and dignity and provides a community and family environment."
