The Minister of Agriculture calls for an early warning system for transboundary diseases

    The Minister of Agriculture, Muhammad al-Khafaji, signed with his Syrian counterpart Muhammad Hassan, a memorandum of understanding for scientific and technical cooperation in the agricultural field, while al-Khafaji stressed during the meeting the importance of creating an early warning system for cross-border diseases.

    A statement by the ministry, which the Iraqi News Agency (INA) received a copy of, stated, today, Friday, that "the Minister of Agriculture, Muhammad al-Khafaji and his accompanying delegation, paid an official visit to the Syrian Arab Republic, in response to an official invitation, where he was received upon his arrival at Damascus Airport, Minister Syrian Agriculture and Agrarian Reform, Muhammad Hassan.
     The official spokesman for the ministry, Hamid Al-Nayef, said during the statement: "Minister Al-Khafaji and the accompanying delegation held bilateral meetings upon his arrival, with his Syrian counterpart, Muhammad Hassan, in which they discussed bilateral relations between the two countries in the agricultural issue."

    He pointed out that "the memorandum aims to develop and strengthen cooperation relations in the fields of agricultural scientific research, plant and animal production, animal health, agricultural policies, statistics, extension and the development of rural women in both countries, in a way that contributes to supporting the agricultural sector and the continuation of joint cooperation relations between them on the basis of mutual interests."
    During the meeting, Al-Khafaji stressed the "necessity of setting a policy not to dump agricultural products on the market, and the importance of creating an early warning system for cross-border diseases."

    Al-Khafaji also participated in the opening ceremony of the "Agritex" exhibition for agricultural and veterinary supplies, in its twentieth session, in the Syrian capital, Damascus.
